Your doodle WILL REQUIRE grooming. They will need to be combed through every 3 days at least. If you can't keep up with the commitment of brushing, you will have to keep them clipped short. The tighter the curl, the more often you will need to brush. Doodles will need a haircut and bath every 6-8 weeks at minimum, depending on the length you keep their coats. Doodles have an undercoat which can get severely matted if not groomed properly. It can be very uncomfortable for the dog, so owners need to be able to commit to these grooming requirements. We love our Island Dog Boutique on Boca Grande. Jane and her team keep our pups looking fresh and fancy!
A thought we should share a few of our favorite grooming tools.
Metal Comb- you will hands down need one of these. When using be sure to get all the way down to the skin. This is where the mats will start. You should be able to comb all the way through the whole body without any resistance.
Chris Christensen Coral Brush- Every doodle owner needs this tool, without a doubt. It is an investment, but so well worth it. It also has a great warranty.
Force Dryer- This is a great dryer to dry you dog as well as blown out all the curl. When blowing this over your dog, you will be able to easily see any mats that may have been missed. Be sure to get one that has an adjustable temperature and pressure setting. You may also get a head wrap to cover your dogs ears. This will make them more comfortable with the sounds.
Rounded Blunt Edge Scissors- These are great for trimming around the eyes, top of head and beard. The blunt edge is safer when cutting around the eye area.
